The Winding Road
After a one home game season-start-tease with the regular season back on – we sent our darling Flames off on a trip! The Blues, Canadiens and the Maple Leafs were on the menu – or at least the line up card lol.
In St. Louis , Curtis Glencross opens scoring with his 2nd of the season – hoping and cheering on the sofa, popcorn, beer and wings flying in the air from Midnapore to Airdrie and beyond Lol — eeeewww hope your popcorn didn’t land in the beer haha. Well I’ll draw that kindly red veil over the rest of things except to say Iginla did with his first goal of the Season. Alas the Blues arched over the Flames 5-2.
FLAMES GOAL SCORERS
Off they go to the city that made me love Hockey, and the reason I have a picture of Jean Béliveau on my wall — its also where I first attended my first NHL games, back when I was a young’n at the Forum. Last time I saw these two match up was at the Heritage Classic 2011 — Calgary Flames and Montreal Canadiens — it was so funny riding the Ctrain home after that game, there were some folks on with the Canadien’s Jerseys and peeps in the c-train cars were chanting “Habs got no goal”… “Habs got no goal” … and others like me were just laughing lol well that was a 4-0 win, and at the Bell Centre on this road trip —- almost a repeat score as Kipper kept all of them out but one, so it was 4-1
GOALIE CGY: M. Kiprusoff
TORONTO – I lived there for 4 years, and don’t think I went to one Leaf game LOL maybe one but not sure — I know I saw Ice Capades and a Randy Travis concert at the Gardens though LOL — back then I was going to Humber College studying Radio Broadcasting, kinda too broke for sports tickets and didn’t miss much at that point with the Leafs anyway … so it was Blue Jays periodically back then.
Highlights for this game …. wow it was cool seeing just the crowd singing Oh Canada at the opening !!! And actually, as the Maple Leaf’s were introduced, they each skated pretty much the same path so this lovely glowing path of illuminated leaves parted in front of them on the ice parted as they were introduced.
Flames did get a nice jump in the first period, but then the wheels fell off lol – oh dear. The Leaf’s Phil Kessel had 2 goals continuing a nice streak – with one more Toronto Goal, the deuce by the Flames wasn’t enough with 2-3 at the end.
Home Run Begins
After some beauty rest in the big TO our feisty Flames flew West and worked on getting some fierceness up for the home games ahead.
While they were having practice and what not, I was deciding which Jersey I’d wear, making sure my little pocket camera’s batteries were charged, cellphone so I can call hubby to pick me up at the C-train after the game lol, rip my season ticket out of my book – and C-train tickets, cash for some Vitamin Water and a snack —– We don’t have any Blaze Magazines atm? What’s up with that? Just surprised, ya’d think there’d be someting by now – lol I want to see pretty hockey pictures – dang who’s gonna pose like that dude on Vancouver almost in the buff – I think that was in a Sportsnet mag .. haven’t seen that pic up close .. YET .. lol – we going to have one brave guy from the club for all the lady fans to gaze in Blaze? I’m hoping 🙂 LOLOLOL and don’t give me Sutter 😛 haha
Ok ok So off for some Provincial Rivalry fun with Oilers and Flames !!! — Lots of Oiler’s shirts on the C-Train on my route from Shawnessey to Stampede/Victoria Park Station – the C of Red tributaries flow in from here across the city 🙂 Love to see all the happy faces, excited to get to the game even when we have 30 below weather in the winter. That gives even me a peachy-cheeked smile, one of the reasons Flames games is a must for me, what else can make you feel like that in Jan or Feb without heading to the airport for a little fun in the sun? On this day, it was just a beautiful fall evening, and with daylight still upon us, I could sport my lovely Chanel sunnies for the ride up.! — ahh little bit of mixed messaging for me haha well … omg you’ll think I’ve lived everywhere haha … but I did spend a few years in Edmonton during Gretzky’s tenure and … gulp … was a fan, went to the Stanley cup finals for a game or two, only time I’ve been to one so far — well so much time has gone by, and that was only a short stint of Oiler fandom in my veins its mostly trickled out now LOL — all looks red again last I saw. Still I did get a kick when the game began and the first loud chanting was “Go Oilers Go” haha it was a bit of a laugh but BE READY FOR IT NEXT TIME !!! Whether you’re there or they’re here … let’s get that LET’S GO FLAMES BELTING OUT before the cheers of O Canada begin to fade !
That’s always a fun time – just the rivalry, everyone is pumped – but oh oh um this is the Oilers, we’d think come on, I though this wasn’t pre-season stuff anymore, and it was time to get over this silly nonsense, but oh dear there was trouble in the Dome .. the goal meter was heading north of Red Deer minutes into the first period!!!! We had to wait until the 3rd period and BAM BAM !!!!!! Boumeester and Tanguay take it away! GO FLAMES GO ! Beats GO OILERS GO! when it gets right down to it 🙂
Haha called hubby at 14:03 to say “oh tie, may be getting on the Ctrain a bit late …” and no way I could get it out, phone was ringing and he picked it up, and the horn blew and that’s all he could hear on the other end of the phone with us all going wild in the Dome hahahahahahaha — so he just hung on for like 2 minutes figuring there was a goal hahaha wooooooot! — so told him well probably be heading home on time lol.
NEW YORK ISLANDERS
Well I have to be quick, I’ll add pretty pictures later OMG just realized today’s game against the Preditors is at 2:00pm, an hour and a half from now LOL as I type and I thought it’d be an evening game haha good thing I checked the Flames calendar oh oh didn’t do my pre-game pack my purse and stuff routine yet LOL
Briefly on the Islanders — wow wow wow on Karlsson – awesome saves, he did get the well deserved recognition at times from the Fans that he deserves, keep that up guys, loved that 🙂 holy moley though with half a second or so left in the game and Islanders boke the tie in the OT Period, never in my life have I seen so many people get up and stampede to the isles so fast LOLOLOL did anyone see who was the 3 stars? jk:) I’ll check I had people rushing so fast I had to move, I sit so close to the C-Train exit rofl
Better run to the game !!!! Oh btw …..
I heard ya Peter !!! I listen to ya on SN Fan960 at the Saddledome LOL I still use an old Sony Walkman for am pickup atm – gotta change that with something eventually — but there I was, he mentioned something about the baseball scores and I think his brain was still there for a few minutes because as the puck headed down the ice he said something like (paraphrasing lol) …. its going behind the PL .. Goal ….. I KNOW YOU WERE ABOUT TO SAY PLATE HAHAHAHA !!!
